Dottie Miles

"My paintings evolve from sketches in my sketchbook, I carry my sketchbook everywhere I think some of my best paintings art the result of long layovers in the airport which is full of interesting models.  Cocktail napkins are also great to sketch on, the soft paper gives an interesting texture.  Trying to get a mood into my paintings (what I feel about the situation) is my main goal. Starting out as a  medical illustrator sketching in surgery which has to be accurate but fast gave me a good background in getting the essentials down in the first few lines.  Now I am putting people together almost like a story to be interpreted by the viewer."

Dottie Miles was born in California. She attended Oakland California's College of Arts & Crafts for two years.  Further studies were at San Francisco's State College and University of California Medical School, San Francisco. Dottie studied Medial Illustration and later worked extensively in the field.

Dottie has won the Utah Arts Council's Traveling Show and Purchase Award. Recently, she won the Western Federation's Art Show- Juror's Choice.
